Stitching Our Community Together: Three Sheep’s Commitment to Fiber Arts and Community Connection

At Three Sheep in Boardman, we believe yarn has a way of bringing people together. What starts as a simple stitch often becomes a conversation, a friendship, a shared experience, or a way to give back.

More than a yarn shop, Three Sheep is a gathering place for knitters, crocheters, weavers, and fiber artists. Through knitting, crochet, weaving, and other fiber arts, we create opportunities for people to connect, learn, share their creativity, and make a difference together.

Community has always been at the heart of what we do. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting The Sheep Detectives, filling the theatre with more than 70 knitters, crocheters, friends, and neighbors for an afternoon of laughter, friendship, and shared stories. It was a wonderful reminder of what happens when people gather around a shared passion.

Over the years, our fiber community has found many ways to turn creativity into kindness. The annual Pink Ribbon Tea has brought people together for years in support of breast cancer awareness and those impacted by cancer. Through this event, our group has created handmade gifts of comfort and care, including knitted knockers, comfort pillows, and chemo hats.

Our community has also come together in other meaningful ways, from collecting personal hygiene products during our Olympic Stitch-a-Thon to donate to a local women’s shelter, to gathering books to share with children at the hospital. Each project is a reminder that small acts of kindness, joined together, can make a big difference.

Our community involvement also extends beyond the shop. Through demonstrations at the fair, visits with schools, and bringing weaving into public spaces, we’ve had the joy of sharing the creative process with people of all ages. These experiences often become community pieces—created together, shaped by many hands, and connected to the places and people around us.

These moments are what make Three Sheep so special. It’s not just about yarn, patterns, or projects—it’s about the people who gather, create, support one another, and make a difference one stitch at a time.

We’d love to hear from you. Are there needs in our community that could use a little extra care? Do you know of a local organization, school, or community group that would benefit from the creativity and generosity of our fiber community? We’re always looking for new ways to share our time, talents, and handmade kindness.

Thank you to everyone who has shared your creativity, compassion, and generosity with Three Sheep. Together, we’re stitching a stronger, kinder community.
