We recently took Ewe & Me Retreats on a two-week Alaska knitting retreat, combining a land tour from Fairbanks to Anchorage with a relaxing cruise through Alaska's Inside Passage. Along the way, we experienced Alaska's wildlife, culture, breathtaking scenery, and plenty of opportunities for knitting, friendship, and inspiration.
We spent a week on land traveling from Fairbanks to Anchorage, with our tour director Claudia doing a fantastic job keeping everything running smoothly and making sure we got the most out of every stop.
We walked with reindeer, watched Athabascan dancers and performers doing incredible athletic feats, cruised on a sternwheeler boat, and rode a luxurious train with views that made you stop mid-conversation more than once. We visited a musk ox farm and got to see these amazing animals up close—something you don’t forget. And we even got lucky enough to see Denali. The mountain revealed itself, something only about 30% of visitors get to experience.
It was one of those trips where every day felt full in a different way. Not rushed, just… full. The kind of full that comes from seeing new places, meeting people who care deeply about their culture and land, and being reminded how much there is to take in when you slow down and look around.
We spent a second week cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage, moving through glacier-filled landscapes and stopping in towns along the way. There was more time to slow down, knit, and simply relax—which is really one of the main points of a retreat.
Friendships were strengthened, and new ones formed as we traveled with knitters from the East Coast to the West Coast, and of course from Ohio too. There’s something special about sharing that kind of time together—different places, different lives, but the same love of making.
We came home refreshed and looking ahead to what’s next, with photos to look back on, Alaskan knitting projects still on our needles, and a deep appreciation for the journey we shared together.
Alaska—and the journey beyond it—was unforgettable.
If you've ever dreamed of combining travel, knitting, and unforgettable scenery, keep an eye on future adventures from Ewe & Me Retreats. We love bringing knitters together to explore new places, make new friends, and create lasting memories one stitch at a time.
