A Hansel is a traditional Shetland word for a gift, particularly one that’s given as a token of appreciation or goodwill. It’s often used to describe a small gift or offering, like a token of friendship or an item given as a gesture of kindness. In Shetland knitting, the term "hansel" is sometimes used to refer to a small, special knitted item, such as a small project or gift knit for someone else.
